Corey Goes Big For His First Bear!

As told to us by Corey:

My good friends Chad Cox & Rex Hall traveled to Manitoba Canada with me in pursuit of black bear. Out of the 3 of us we had seen a combined total of 0 bears in the wild, so we didn’t know what to expect. Day 1 in my stand I saw 7 bears, including one trying to climb into the tree with me! Thank goodness a sow was at the bait barrel and ran the other bear off before it could make it up to me! Day 2 more of the same… a sow with 3 cubs, another big sow, and smaller bear. Day 3 a close call with what I think was a big sow, I debated on shooting her. I even texted Robin for his opinion… Boy I sure am glad I didn’t listen to him! LOL! Day 4 brought my big boar in! He was with the same bear that tried to climb the tree with me on night 1. As I got ready for the shot the smaller bear caught my scent trail and followed it right to my tree again! It stood up, looked at me, and let out a growl! I felt that keeping the bear from trying to get a closer look at me was more important than killing one, so I started to talk to see if I could run it off. Well it didn’t run off and neither did the big boar, but it did relax enough for me to get off a shot. My arrow found the mark and the commotion scared off the smaller bear! A short tracking job lead to my first bear! He ended up being 6 ft and weighed well over 200lbs - not a bad start to my bear hunting career!

Bowhunting FL Hogs

Posted on: May 23rd, 2011 by Robin@aimnlowtv No Comments

Keith and I made the trip to FL once again to bowhunt hogs with staffers Chet Maxcy and Charlie Peck.  This hog hunt is one of my favorite hunts of the entire year and this trip reminded my of why.  Within the first hour of the hunt I had a miss out of the way and connected on a nice hog.  By the time the dust cleared behind us as we headed for the Orlando airport, the score was me with four hogs, Keith with one, and Charlie Peck with one.  We also had the pleasure of being joined by Shawn Olwell and his friend Mike, from AZ.  This hunt was part of a hunt raffle that Aim Low did last year to help a friend in need.  Lucky for us, Shawn and Mike were great guys and a blast to share camp with.  Shawn used his Elite bow to put a couple hogs of his own down, so look for him to show up in a future segment of Aim N Low TV and a future hog hunting DVD. (Is that a hint for you Aim Low DVD collectors?)  A big thanks to Chet and Charlie for having us down there.  Also thanks to Jeremy for helping us video, and we can’t forget the great food and company of Mr. Guy Maxcy and Coach Gooch!  Here are a couple pix from the trip.  Trust me when I say that we have some great and unique video to share from this trip!

I finally got the chance to get out and do some turkey hunting. After hearing the stories and seeing the pictures from Robin and Eric’s trip, I couldn’t take it much longer.

Nick Govero was gracious enough to take me to his lease in mid Missouri where we have had success in the past. After sitting for 3 1/2 hours and not hearing or seeing a single bird, we decided to switch locations to get out of the wind. That turned out to be a great move because within 30 minutes of getting set up, a nice mature tom came running to my gobbler decoy, Peckerhead, and put on a show. I got to take my first animal using the new Tempest release and Smooth Stability stabilizer.  It’s nice to know at crunch time that you have reliable equipment. That was the most excitement I have had in quite some time.
